Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well.
September marks a very special time for us here at StarVista.
First, September is National Suicide Prevention Month – a time to advance suicide prevention awareness throughout our shared community. StarVista’s first program was the 24/7 Crisis Hotline (650) 579-0350, and I am grateful to say that after 57 years, we continue to operate San Mateo County’s crisis hotline. This program continues to innovate to meet the crisis needs of our community, and I want to thank all of our staff, volunteers, and interns for their dedicated work in crisis intervention and prevention for individuals of all ages.
Second, September is National Recovery Month – a month honoring the progress and support of recovery treatment and practices. StarVista’s Wellness and Recovery Services address the recovery needs of individuals of all ages, and we are proud to operate programs that fill equity gaps in recovery here within our county. I would also like to thank the staff, interns, and volunteers for their dedication to helping our clients build resilience and strength through their journeys to recovery.
We believe that prevention and recovery are possible with the right care and support. We are very excited to be hosting and participating in events with some of our partners around the county this month to honor suicide prevention and recovery services.
I am grateful to share the following resources in my newsletter to help you, your friends, and your loved ones get involved in nurturing mental health and wellness in San Mateo County.
Sincerely,
Sara Larios Mitchell, Ph.D., MACP
CEO
