A Message from Our CEO

July 2024

Dear friends,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the Summer.

I would like to start by thanking you, our incredible StarVista community, for the many ways that you show your support for our programs. Last month, we were honored to have Basecamp Fitness San Mateo choose StarVista as the beneficiary for their inaugural “Claim your Mile” event. This incredible group collectively pedaled 468 miles to raise nearly $600 in donations for StarVista! I was also grateful to connect with many of the class participants who expressed their support for StarVista. I’d like to thank the amazing Basecamp Fitness staff and all of the participants for helping fund our services. Read the recap here.

This month, we were honored to welcome Congressman Kevin Mullin to our Women’s Enrichment Center program. Read about the visit here. We are grateful for Congressman Mullin’s consistent support of our agency, which serves over 40,000 San Mateo County residents annually. His leadership has been paramount, particularly through his co-sponsorship of the 988 Crisis Hotline and his staunch advocacy for homelessness legislation.

We are eagerly preparing to send 20 Kampers to Camp Lodestar for Kids Kamp next month! Launched in July 1985, Kids Kamp has been a beacon of hope for so many San Mateo County children and families that are facing addiction and mental health challenges. This camp has helped hundreds of children build their resilience and confidence, empowering them to choose paths that break unhealthy cycles and help them lead healthier, happier lives. We can’t wait to welcome the children to Kids Kamp this August! Thanks to a generous benefactor, we are matching donations up to $30,000. Help a child heal this summer by donating here.

I’d like to also invite you to join me at StarVista’s annual fundraising gala, Changing Lives 2024. This special event will take place on Thursday, October 17, from 6-9pm in the Farallon Room at Skyline College. This year’s event is particularly significant as it marks the fifth anniversary of Changing Lives. It’s a milestone that commemorates the visionaries who have supported our cause since its inception and an invitation to new supporters to join in this noble endeavor. Enjoy free food, live music, guest speakers, stories of inspiration, and networking opportunities with your friends at StarVista. RSVP to the event here.

Lastly, we are excited to share our Annual Report for FY22|23. Enjoy our new visual digital report here.

Warm regards,
Sara Larios Mitchell, Ph.D., MACP
CEO
