July is Self-Care Month
Self-Care month starts on June 24 and ends on July 24th, International Self-Care Day. International Self-Care Day is recognized on July 24th to honor the message of practicing Self-Care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
According to WHO, Self-Care is an opportunity to:
-
raise additional awareness about Self-Care and Self-Care interventions
-
celebrate the benefits that they bring to people’s lives and what’s been achieved so far
-
call for renewed commitments and action to expand health systems to include Self-Care interventions

Teen Wellness with StarVista’s Health Ambassador Program for Youth
As a teen, there is a lot to think about with school, work, family, friends, college, and the future. Life can feel overwhelming at times, often causing stress and anxiety that interferes with our daily lives. But how do you find balance during these times? Sometimes, it can be as simple as putting yourself first.
Self-Care
A part of taking care of your mind and overall wellness is through Self-Care.
Self-Care is setting time aside for an activity to help reduce stress and raise endorphins to recharge both your body and mind. There can be a lot going on between school, work, friends, family, college prep, and thinking about your future! It can be easy to feel overwhelmed.
Meet StarVista’s 23’ HAP-Y Youth
To learn how to best support yourself, we asked some of StarVista’s HAP-Y youth to share what Self-Care means to them, activities they practice, and why Self-Care is important to teen wellness. We hope this video inspires you to take action to support your mental health!
To give you some ideas of Self-Care activities, we asked our HAP-Y ambassadors what they do for Self-Care!
“One thing I like to do for Self-Care is listening to music, which I’m sure is really popular. It just helps boost my mood and motivate me to do more productive things while I listen. I like to draw while I listen to music, on paper and also digitally.”
“I work out 4-5 times a week for Self-Care. I started weightlifting at the gym last year, and it’s quickly become an important part of my life. After a long day of schoolwork, going to the gym helps me relieve any stress, and makes me feel strong and energized.”
“One thing I like to do for Self-Care is go out to the beach. While I’m at the beach I like to think about the good and the bad things that are currently going on in my life.”
“For my Self-Care I always do some sort of physical activity, whether it’s running, playing soccer, biking, going to the gym, or more. I do this because it helps to release some of that extra energy that I might be using for stressing out or getting mad.”
“I often de stress by going on walks in the evening with my dogs, baking, painting, and going on drives with my older sister. Valuing Self-Care is a big aspect of my life, as it helps me get my mind off things and process my stress.”
