A Message From Our CEO

A Message From Our CEO

blog, News

Dear Community,

2020 has been a year of unprecedented difficulties for many of us. For over 50 years, StarVista has been helping people navigate life’s challenges. Right now, we are carrying on that mission by serving folks who have been impacted the most by this pandemic. While many of us have spent the better part of this year sheltering-in-place, StarVista has been busy adapting programs to provide Telehealth services and making changes to the way we engage with supporters.

We are honored to have shared and celebrated our partnership for the last 27 years at The Starting Line Breakfast, and the last 5 years at Taste of the Peninsula. Starting this year, StarVista is combining our two annual fundraising events into a single fundraiser. We welcome and invite you to join us at our new (now virtual) event, Changing Lives.

The event will take place on October 29th featuring our Special Guest Speaker, Honorable Congresswoman Jackie Speier. Congresswoman Jackie Speier is a fearless fighter for women’s equality, LGBTQ rights and the disenfranchised who has dedicated her life to eliminating government corruption while working to strengthen America’s national and economic security. She was named to Newsweek’s list of 150 “Fearless Women” in the world and one of “Politico’s 50” most influential people in American politics for bringing the Me Too reckoning to Congress.

We are also excited to announce a new community of supporters,  StarVista Visionaries. This year only, all StarVista Visionaries will become Founding Members of this community.  At StarVista, we create opportunities for people to make changes leading to the life they envision for themselves. Supporters like you provide the resources needed to make those changes possible.

I want to take a minute to say my thoughts are with everyone who is experiencing challenges right now due to the wildfires and the pandemic. For those affected by the CZU complex fires in San Mateo County, you can sign-up for @CALFIRECZU email updates. Also, be sure to check out updated CDC guidelines for protecting yourself from wildfire smoke and COVID-19. Click here for a list of wildfire resources.

While some of today’s challenges may be new, StarVista’s commitment to serving all people in the form of counseling, skill development, and crisis intervention and prevention, remains strong, and as important as ever.  We are committed to changing lives. Please join us.

Sincerely,

Sara Larios Mitchell, Ph.D., MACP
CEO
