A Message from our CEO
March 2025
Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well, and that you are staying warm and dry during this prolonged winter season.
First, I would like to share that we are postponing our ribbon cutting and open house event, Celebrating Change 2025, to a later date as we are still settling into our great new location. We would like to thank everyone that has already RSVP’d. We will announce a new date and more details very soon. Please stay tuned!
I am excited to share that our organization is partnering again with SolMateo to host Spring into Transitions (SIT) 2025 virtually on Wednesday, March 19 from 7-8pm (PST) on Zoom. SIT is an engaging panel discussion on teen mental health and wellness, exploring the challenges students face and how they can navigate life’s transitions. Our expert panelists will share their insights and personal experiences, offering practical tips and strategies for supporting teens in self-care, stress management, and navigating change. Register for the panel discussion here.
I also wanted to share the that due to funding challenges, we made the difficult decision to close our Women’s Enrichment Center and DUI Services programs. We value our staff tremendously and so we are pleased that some of our staff will be able to transition to other StarVista programs, while others have been connected with partner agencies. Our team worked hard to ensure that clients were referred to partner agencies.
I am delighted to share that StarVista is partnering with San Mateo PAL and Stride for Awareness to host Mental Health Matters (MHM) 2025: A 5K Run/Walk and Wellness Fair. Taking place on Saturday, May 31, at Seal Point Park in San Mateo, MHM celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month with a run/walk for mental health and a wellness fair that features self-care activities and vendors. It is a fantastic event for all ages. Register for the event here.
Last, but certainly not least, we are excited about the expansion of our Community Wellness and Crisis Response Team (CWCRT) program. What began as a 3-year pilot program with 4 police departments has now expanded to include 8 police departments. We are very grateful for our partnership with San Mateo County BHRS and the participating police departments for helping our community address mental and behavioral health crises. Sincerely,
Sara Larios Mitchell, Ph.D., MACP
