When the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order was given in the Bay Area, Tyler’s* world was flipped upside down. Tyler was afraid of falling behind on their schoolwork because they had limited computer access. They only had 2 borrowed laptops in their household to share among 5 other kids, three of whom are also in foster care. Tyler is a client of StarVista’s Foster Youth Education Enrichment Services (FYEES) program, a one-on-one, strength-based case management and coaching service to support the academic achievement of San Mateo County foster youth. They are currently receiving support from FYEES in adjusting to the changes from the shelter-in-place order. After a donor saw StarVista’s social media post describing the need for technology, FYEES Bilingual Case Manager, Bruna Olivera, was able to receive a donated Chromebook for Tyler. With the donor’s gracious support, Bruna was able to deliver the Chromebook to Tyler personally.
Tyler is so grateful for this gifted Chromebook; they gave the biggest smile when they were told it was theirs to keep forever.
We would like to thank the individual who donated the Chromebook for helping us in empowering individuals, inspiring hope, and strengthening communities during these difficult times.
