StarVista Celebrates 55 Years of Service in San Mateo County
San Carlos, CA February 18, 2021 – StarVista, a nonprofit that delivers high impact services through counseling, skill development, and crisis prevention to children, youth, adults, and families to San Mateo County residents, celebrates its 55th anniversary this year.
For 55 years, StarVista has been empowering individuals, inspiring hope, strengthening communities. Its counseling, crisis prevention, youth housing, and early childhood programs reach tens of thousands of people in San Mateo County each year.
StarVista began as Peninsula Suicide Prevention Inc. in 1966, offering crisis intervention and suicide prevention services and one of the first 24-hour crisis lines in the country. Since then, the agency has merged with other local organizations to expand its programs to offer support to clients facing substance abuse, domestic violence and mental health issues.
Today, StarVista is the largest multi-service agency in San Mateo County with 30 programs and 12 service areas, including the county’s one and only LGBTQ Center, the San Mateo County Pride Center.
